The Tanning Process

When the skin is exposed to Ultraviolet Rays (UV), the cells in your epidermis (outer layer of skin) called melanocytes, produce melanin. Melanin is the pigment that is absorbed by the surrounding skin cells. When the melanin is exposed to the UVA ray, the melanin oxidizes (or darkens) to create a tan. Click here for an article from the Suntanning Association for Education's website on how the skin tans.

What are the Different Sun Rays

There are 3 kinds of non-visible ultraviolet light that the sun produces, UVA, UVB and UVC rays. The shortest ray is the UVC ray that is most harmful, however our ozone layer protects us from these rays. The medium length ray is the UVB which triggers the tanning process in our skin. Finally, there is the UVA ray, which is the longest ray that is responsible for the oxidation of melanin in the skin.

Maximizing Your Tanning Experience

Tanning beds have made it for all of us to enjoy a year-round bronze tan. One of the best ways to maximize your tan is with tanning lotions designed specifically for tanning salons. Tanning bed lotions with tyrosine helps the body to retain melanin longer and may also help to clean your pores since tyrosine is shown to be an antioxidant. On top of that, many tanning bed lotions contain Vitamin E and finally, tanning bed lotions also moisturize the skin. Please, please do not use outdoor tanning products on our beds. They will not help you to get tanner and they will do damage to our beds.

Tanning Goggles are a Must !!

Your eyes lids are not enough to protect your eyes from UV Damage. We care about your eyes, that's why we provide tanning goggles free of charge for your use in our salon. To avoid "Racoon Eyes", move the goggles up and down during your tanning session. By not wearing protection, damage can happen in the form of night blindness, color blindness and blurred vision. Your eyes are too important for you not to wear proper protection.

Tanning For Minors

We care about the welfare of our minors.  We required to have a parent consent form for any minors from the ages of 14 to 18.   Please stop by our salon to pick one up.
